Is There Ever a Good Reason to Be Conceited?

Rapper Remy Ma came out with a song in 2006 where she proclaimed that she was conceited and had a reason. It quickly became a major hit in the music world and a mantra that many women were quick to adopt.


However, is there every really a good reason to be conceited?


Let’s look at this from both sides:


One could argue that, yes, there is a good reason. Being that they’ve worked their butts off to achieve a certain level of success warrants a few self-praising moments. In this aspect, I believe that the right word to use is “confident,” not “conceited.” Yes, you went to school, got your degree, got a banging job or started your own successful business. You beat the odds and attained a level of accomplishment that not many people reach. However, all of this should add to your confidence, not cause you to be someone who constantly flaunts your success in the face of others. For one, it can be a major turn-off to your friends, family and potential mate. Let your work speak for you. You never know what others are struggling with, so this kind of behavior can be deemed insensitive. No, we shouldn’t go about life always thinking about how others will view us, but at the end of the day, acting like you are above everyone else can do more harm than good. You can hinder your chances for new opportunities or meeting a great guy because people will not want to be around you. They won’t want to deal with your inflated ego.
Then, there are some who are conceited due to their appearance…


When it comes to this, I say you have absolutely no reason to think so highly of yourself. First, I am a true believer that you are only as beautiful as your personality and depth. Beauty fades, ladies! Not only does it fade, but things can happen in life that could scar your pretty little face for life.


Have you ever met someone who was so visually stunning in person that you couldn’t look away, but as soon as they opened their mouths they went from a 10 to a 3?


This happens often because people think that their looks are the only thing they need to get them through life. Just like the person who has it all and always throws it in your face is a turn-off, the person who is externally amazing but internally an asshole gets the same side-eye.
When it comes to how you view yourself, you should be confident in the person you are. Know what you do and do not deserve, and don’t allow anyone to devalue your worth. People gravitate to confidence because it is something that you naturally exude, it’s not forced. Confidence reigns supreme over being conceited any day of the week.

I dont understand, it seems like the first part of your statement conflicts with the second.

Thinking highly of yourself is a characteristic of being confident and/or aware BUT being nasty to others as a result of thinking highly of yourself IMO is being concieted.

I BELIEVE IF YOU ARE CONCEITED YOUR ALWAYS TRYING TO PROVE YOURSELF TO OTHERS BUT IF YOUR CONFIDENT IS NOT NEEDED. JMO

A confident woman is a pleasure to be around.

This all sounds like a variation of "penis envy!" Now you can cocky to confidence and conceited. Ever asked someone who was tryng to set you up with their friend what they looked like. The response is usually "he/she is nice!" When you get a personality trait response, rather than a physical description, thats usually the time to say nevermind, I'll find Mr/Ms Right myself.

for that particular line alone..I think she's showin confidence..she JUST MIGHT be too good for all them that were in the club THAT NIGHT...now if she would've said "Can't NO BITCH on EARTH fade me" then that would be conceit...Its "some bitch" on the PLANET that looks better then she does....proly quite a few.

That would be conceit. I used to roll with this Brotha who was cool as hell and we used to kick it for the longest. The only flaw that wore on me was that he used to consistently compare himself with other Brotha's based on image and other idiosyncrasies such as complexion and all that nonsense; also, how women would glance at him. I would say "Are you sure you're not conceited?" His response was "No, i'm convinced. LOL Self confidence is pure, but the conceit of oneself above others is a perversion, but that's just me.
